Associate Director, Media Strategy

Job description

The Associate Director, Strategy constructs the strategic foundation for media channel development. The Associate Director, Strategy will play a key role in developing media strategy and makes insightful recommendations consistent with the approved strategy. As a key agency contact, he/she maintains strong relationships with the internal account services and media departments.

The Associate Director, Strategy applies his/her knowledge of industry trends and Ocean Media’s consumer/channel insight resources to offer the clients fresh thinking. He/she manages team projects, ensuring they are completed accurately and on time and reflect both practical and strategic thinking.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Guides the team in translating client goals into strategic media solutions that grow our client’s brands, and ensure strategic consistency across all elements of media plan development and implementation
  • Leads research initiatives, identifying tools and resources that will aid in the consumer insight gathering and strategic planning process
  • Shares evolving media trends and opportunities with peers and clients, ensuring recommendations look to incorporate both existing media as well as emerging creative communication channels.
  • Leads the development of strategic media plans and ensures all media briefs and execution align with strategic direction
  • Works with media and account services teams to measure plans upon implementation and after execution to ensure delivery against strategic plans/goals
  • Works in the development and implementation of media campaigns including most or all of the following: National and Local television (Cable and Broadcast), Digital/Social Video, Digital Audio (including Podcasts) and Emerging Media, limited print/audio/OOH
  • Works closely with internal media and account services departments, applying media planning solutions to overall client objectives
  • Works with internal media team to ensure integrated / cross-screen objectives and strategies into overall plans
  • Develops and presents recommendations, evaluations, POVs and media analyses to clients and Account Service team
  • Coordinates with the Buying and Account Service teams on understanding of current marketplace conditions, competitive spending or potential media opportunities
  • Gathers and analyzes data to provide sound, strategic, consumer-insights driven media recommendations
  • Follows all company health and safety procedures
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned

Education and Experience

Education

Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) required

Experience

4 plus years related experience required

Specific knowledge required

Basic knowledge of fundamental concepts and practices with the ability to apply this knowledge in common business situations.

  • Minimum of 4+ years of experience developing and planning strategic media recommendations and stewarding media account projects
  • Experience utilizing multiple media channels , including TV and digital advertising
  • Possess and demonstrate strong understanding of media fundamentals, including media math, target audience development, and communication goals (reach/frequency)
  • Familiarity with marketing principles, analytics and concepts
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and media research/reporting resources
  • Experience or familiarity using industry media planning tools: MRI/Simmons Research, Reach/Frequency Projection Software, Nielsen Npower, Comscore, AdIntel
  • Prior experience in a client contact and leadership role
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; able to confidently present and “sell through” ideas internally
  • Ability to work within a team, handle multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines
