POSITION: SENIOR MEDIA BUYER

JOB PURPOSE
The position of Senior Media Buyer is responsible for continuously developing and creating sound media strategies and plans based on a clear understanding of client objectives as well as feedback from analytics. This position is also responsible for the planning, negotiating, buying and maintenance of media buys. The Senior Media Buyer develops and maintains relationships with vendors to work towards the overall goal of each client and is constantly in tune with marketplace conditions, trends and changes within the media. This position works with the Account Services Department to continuously develop, monitor, and adjust media schedules based on performance feedback from the client(s) and the Analytics Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans, negotiates, buys and maintains media schedules on behalf of all Ocean Media clients
- Responsible for recommending what networks to put their client(s) on, the amount of money distributed to each network and what dayparts to distribute spots into. These decisions can have an impact on the client’s return on investment and ultimately if budgets are increased or decreased
- Responsible for resolving discrepancies with networks when a commercial does not air correctly. Buyer decides whether a credit is taken or a no charge spot is given
- Monitors historical rate structures to ensure rate integrity is maintained. The rate structures become the basis for the negotiations with the networks which ultimately leads to deciding whether or not a network is purchased
- Works with account executives to continuously develop, monitor and adjust media schedules based on performance feedback from clients
- Evaluates new media opportunities and secures added value for clients, recommending those opportunities that are most beneficial to the client
- Develops and maintains relationships with media company account executives
- Tracks the market for trends, opportunities, etc. and uses this information to make recommendations on what is best for the client. Many of these decisions can impact a client’s return on investment. For example, one key trend buyers make clients aware of is rate increases. This is important so that buyers book orders before clients have to pay higher rates
- Along with client objectives, utilizes media research tools and resources to aid in campaign development when making recommendations for media buys
- Provides training to Assistant Media Buyers
- Follows all company health and safety procedures
- Performs other related duties as required or assigned
Buying Responsibilities:
- Plans, negotiates, buys and maintains media schedules on behalf of their Ocean Media client(s)
- Monitors historical rate/CPM structures to ensure rate/CPM integrity is maintained and is able to assign accurate CPM’s with very few to no modifications made by management. The rate structure becomes the basis for the negotiations with the networks which ultimately leads to deciding whether or not a network is purchased Develops and maintains relationships with media company account executives and managers and is able to successfully work with challenging pricing negotiations
- Responsible for recommending what networks to put their client(s) on, the amount of money distributed to each network and what dayparts to distribute spots into. These decisions can have an impact on the client’s return on investment and ultimately if budgets are increased or decreased
- At an advanced level, utilizes media research tools and resources along with client objectives to aid in campaign development when making recommendations for media buys
- Works with account services to continuously develop, monitor and adjust media schedules based on performance feedback from client(s) and Analytics Department and does so with a proactive approach, providing sound suggestions and recommendations
- At an advanced level, evaluates and understands new media opportunities and secures added value for clients, recommending those opportunities that are most beneficial to the client
- Exercises independent thinking and requires very little help, guidance or corrections from management regarding planning, negotiating and buying
- Tracks the market for trends, opportunities, etc. and uses that information to make recommendations on what is best for their client(s). Many of these decisions can impact a client’s return on investment
- Responsible for resolving discrepancies with networks when a commercial does not air correctly. Senior Media Buyer decides whether a credit is taken or a no charge spot is given
- Potential to head up a large account with multiple buyers on it. Senior Media Buyer would oversee the team
- Follows all company health and safety procedures
- Performs other related duties as required or assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Manages and oversees training, guidance and leadership of his/her Assistant Media Buyer(s)
- Monitors work performance and daily workload of his/her Assistant Media Buyer(s)
- Works to improve efficiency and effectiveness of his/her Assistant Media Buyer(s) responsibilities within the department
- Addresses any personnel or employee relations issues of his/her Assistant Media Buyer(s) before they escalate
- Initiates any corrective actions needed for his/her Assistant Media Buyer(s)
- Updates job descriptions, initiates and works through the recruitment process of his/her assistant Media Buyer(s)
- Writes and presents performance reviews to his/her Assistant Media Buyer(s)
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.)
EXPERIENCE
5 – 7 years national cable buying experience preferred.
DR experience preferred.
Would like someone who knows MS Excel, is detailed oriented and can multitask.
Ideal candidate also has an advanced and thorough knowledge of media planning and buying principles and practices and requires little supervision from management and very few corrections to their work.
